The ATJRN seeks to promote and encourage transitional justice research in Africa through the development of research capacity, the building of transitional justice content knowledge, and the creation of spaces for practitioners and researchers in Africa to share experiences, expertise, and lessons learned. The goal is to ensure that the transitional justice agenda in Africa is locally informed and owned.
The Network consists of four main elements:
- the ATJRN website;
- the TJNetwork listserv which networks individuals in the transitional justice field globally to facilitate dialogue and the sharing of research, opportunities, and knowledge;
- a quarterly e-newsletter;
- capacity building workshops on transitional justice research to be conducted in various regions across the African continent
Key Objectives of the ATJRN
- Create spaces for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and coalition-building amongst African civil society engaged in or interested in transitional justice issues.
- Strengthen the ability of local researchers in Africa to conduct effective research to inform, monitor, and evaluate transitional justice mechanisms on the continent.
